Largest Online Shopping Day in the World: USD139 Billion 2016

What started out as an unofficial day for unmarried people to celebrate a sort of an anti-Valentine’s Day on the 11th of November has become the largest online shopping day in the world every year with sales figures reaching USD139.1 billion in 2021 for both Alibaba and JD.com. JD.com is a very large and popular online sales company in China just like Alibaba. The photos show the JD.com delivery centre just outside the back gate of my apartment compound in Beijing. One day I saw thousands of parcels that had overflowed out of the delivery centre waiting to be delivered outside the JD.Com delivery centre. Upon enquiring I found out about the Singles Day in China. This is just one delivery centre and there are many more scattered, just around the area I live. So you can imagine the number of JD.com delivery centres they have around the country and thus the scale of the Single Day’s shopping in China. It’s mind blowing.
