A short walk from the Benxi water caves was the Benxi Geological Museum. The museum building looked impressive from the outside. It was built in 2007 and has a built-up area of 4,200 square meters with several exhibition halls inside. The museum traced the key geological changes on earth from its birth 4.6 billion years ago. There was a large collection of mineral crystals, gems and jade and an impressive display of geological relics and fossils. All the exhibits were labelled with explanations in both Chinese and English. This will be the only geological museum I visited in China during my ten years there.
