BMW’s joint venture in China is called BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) and it employed 20,000 people, mostly local as well as some expatriates. It operated 3 plants in Shenyang, had sales and marketing offices in Beijing and many other offices around the country. I can assume that most of the head counts were in the Shenyang plants. I was working in one of these 3 plants in Shenyang, in the Tiexi district. More than 100 company buses brought staff to work to this BMW plant. Many others drove, took cabs etc. to work. I used to take the company bus but later got my personal driver so that I have more flexibility with my timings. My driver will drop me off at this Tiexi Plant Gate 2 main entrance which is at the far end of the photo. Beyond that point no buses, cars or cabs can come in unless its a VIP. So for most of us, this is the way we walked to work every morning, rain, sun or snow.
