I remember this meeting very clearly. I had to organize a launch for the company’s new sourcing processes. However, sourcing processes were not the sexiest topic in the world and I needed a way to attract mass participation from the staff. I had a creative idea in my head for an interesting business game but I needed these subject matter experts to flesh it out. In this first meeting, I explained the concept to them but they were not quite sure what it was all about, were confused and even reluctant. But I kept at it and engaged with them again and again and until they came around. They eventually became the organizing committee and poured their heart and soul into the idea. The business game concept eventually materialized and was hugely successfully. Even the CEO got to know about it and came down to participate. All that started with this first unsure meeting in this small room.
