Although all the public signs in China are in both Chinese and English, other signs are normally in Chinese. For example, if you go to a local wet market or a supermarket, you can expect most of the signs and labels to be in Chinese. In our initial years, we shopped in a Carrefour store in the Gubei area but later started being more local. One of the advantages of shopping in Carrefour, is that, Carrefour being a French international chain, has all its product labels in English as well. For example, you can see here the packed date, best before date, unit price, net weight, storage condition and total amount for this fish, which I think is a Mackeral.
