A three storey building is coming up on the main road in a rural area. Workers are delivering bricks, while others are hauling it over a crane to the third floor. The property owner is overseeing the work. Labour cost is low in China and so not many machines are needed. And the Chinese like to keep things simple and low-cost. No long or complicated processes. At the same time, it is unfortunate that workers’ safety is sometimes compromised. For example, nobody seems to be wearing a safety helmet or a safety vest in this construction site. It’s quite often the same case, even if it is not a rural area: insufficient protection for workers.
