One Saturday morning at about 8.00am, I heard some loud explosions and I peered out of my apartment window to find out what was happening. They were firing up fire crackers into the sky for apparently what looked like a wedding car procession. That was the first time I realised that you can have your own private fireworks for your life’s special occasions in Shenyang. I lived in Shanghai for five years before coming to Shenyang. You can only see fireworks in Shanghai during the Chinese New Year. But in Shenyang, you can apparently have fireworks for any public holidays, weddings, new business openings and birthdays too.
