BMW’s four plants in China are all in the Datong and Tiexi Districts of the Shenyang province. I worked in the Tiexi plant and lived near it. In fact, the main road outside my apartment, Shenliao Lu went straight to the plant’s vicinity. Every summer, my neighbourhood will set-up a long night market along this main road. It was about 3km long and it can take about two hours to walk to the end and back. Like clockwork, vendors would arriving and setting up their pop-up shops along the road at 6pm. Some of their shops were as easy to set up as parking a truck on their allocated lot and opening up the back. Classic Chinese practicality.
