The beef noodles was one of my most favourite dishes whilst in China. It was available in Shanghai but I truly only fall in love with when I was living in Shenyang. Maybe it was always nice to have a hot bowl of soup dish when its bloody -10 to -18 centigrades (14 to -0.4 F) most of the time.
And I was really blessed to have a beef noodles place in the shopping centre right below my apartment. It was called “California Beef Noodle King” and I used to eat there regularly for lunch. I have no idea why this was called “California Beef Noodle King” or whether it was available in California but it was absolutely a great comfort food for me.
This beef noodles dish is basically a bowl of thin noodles with juicy chunks of beef in soup costing about RMB12 (USD1.9). The beef chunks were really tender and delicious. This dish really fills up my stomach and there is no need to get a juice or a Coke after this. After coming to Melbourne I did try to go to a nearby noodles place to try their beef noodles twice but it wasn’t the same unfortunately. The soup tasted different and the beef meat was presented in strips rather than in chunks. Then I realised that the dish varies slightly from province to province. Of course it does.
