I had a can of Wang Lao Ji in the cafe of the high speed rail while going to Changzhou from Nanjing. Wang Lao Ji is quite popular in China and sometimes is called the coca cola of China. It has no caffeine and instead 7 herbs that helps to reduce excessive body heat, detoxifies and is also a great thirst quencher. I got introduced to it by my Chinese friends in 2010 and was one of my favourite go-to beverages in China until I left the country in 2018. I actually haven’t had it since I came to Australia, not even once. I just thought that I had to move on with my life. Holding onto Chinese drinks and snacks that I used to love while in China and trying to locate and buy them in Australia was simply not sustainable. Firstly they are not commonly available here as in China and secondly they are more expensive in Australia. However, I still continue to cook my favourite mainland Chinese dishes but I just don’t buy Chinese comfort food. On that part, I have moved on. So, good bye my dear friend Wang Lao Ji.
