It has been six months since I arrived in Shenyang and was settling into my new job and my new neighbourhood. I didn’t have any video streaming devices. I had not signed up for a VPN service yet. I just had a TV which only showed local channels in Chinese and an office laptop from which I could not go to many international websites because of China’s Great Firewall. Eventually I ended-up catching the 2014 World Cup in the restaurants around my neighbourhood who had the access. Today, I watched the Costa Rica vs Greece match at my favourite Chinese barbecue outdoor area. Costa Rica won after a penalty shoot out, 5-3.
