Looking for a Place to Stay in Shanghai

Shanghai, 2009

This was in 2009 when I relocated from Singapore with my family. We stayed in a service apartment provided by my company Schaeffler Group for about 1.5 months. During that time, I tried to look around for a house to rent. The office gave us some real estate contacts and I found my own contacts. They brought us to see various houses in different residential compounds.

My kids were 7 and 3 years old at that time and were enrolled into the British International School Puxi in the Qingpu district in Shangahi and therefore I tried to find a house which was not too far from the school and that had a direct school bus transport.

Eventually I found a house in the Jiu Shi residential compound where we stayed for five years. I will write about that compound another time. For now, here are some pictures of some of the houses we went to see in 2009. At that time, the monthly rental for these houses were between RMB15,000 (USD2,375) and RMB30,000 (USD4,749).
