I have travelled to 22 countries so far in my life and none of that was within the last 10 years. Most of the traveling happened in a previous life when I was the marketing manager for 9 years for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia for the aftermarket activities of a large global German automotive OEM supplier called the ZF Group. I travelled almost fortnightly within the Asia Pacific region and once a year to Germany for the annual international marketing managers’ meetings. Initially I bought a cheap luggage for one of those trips. It broke during the trip and refused to close. I strapped it up and checked it in when returning back to Singapore. That fucking luggage never came back. I then started looking for a reliable brand and bought a large black Delsey suitcase for checking-in in 2001. It has stayed with me for over 22 and has never let me down in all my travels. The other one that has stayed with me as long is my hand-carry leather Samsonite suitcase. These two are the only luggages I have ever carried since. The lesson learnt is: Never ever buy cheap luggage.
