A Farmer Called Mr. Liu

This is Mr. Liu, the patriarch of the Liu family I was staying with during my farm stay. He was a nice, quiet and soft spoken man. One early morning, I went for a walk outside the farm house and saw him standing in front of his fields looking into the horizon. It seems he did that everyday morning. That morning he had a ruck sack with him and he walked over to his wawa chai (Chinese cabbage) field and started uprooting a wawa chai. The wawa chai was huge and it was not an easy task uprooting it. I walked over and helped him to pull out three wawa chais, loaded them into the sack and carried it back home for him. Those vegetables were to be cooked for lunch for the guests. We didn’t talk much. A few years later, he fall sick and passed away. He was in his seventies. I hereby pay my deep respects to the one farmer I personally know in my life, Mr Liu. May your soul rest in peace.
