Its hard not to talk about Wangfujing when you talk about Beijing. Its the equivalent of Nanjing Lu in Shanghai. Its basically a long pedestrian walking street with a huge number of shopping centres on both sides. There are also small shopping and food lanes on the sides that you can explore. I think everyone who goes to Beijing will definitely go to Wangfujing. I have been there several times for sightseeing and street food, not really for shopping. That’s where I found by chance a master watch repairer who ended up repairing a watch my dad gave me when I was young. You can read about that story here. I think the majority of the people you see here are not Beijing locals but are people from the provinces either visiting or working in Beijing. You can say that from their clothes, their languages and their accents and of course their behaviours. One piece of interesting information that I found out just today was that it was actually once called the Morrison Street, named after an Australian George Ernest Morrison from Geelong, Victoria and who was the political advisor to the government in 2012. Well, now you know.
