You have to understand that the Chinese authorities are always very strict, wherever you meet them in China. For example, in the airport, the customs officers are extremely sharp and firm. You must have all your the travel documents and visa in proper order, else you will never make it. This is my daughter at the customs at the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. We were flying to Beijing for a short holiday from Shanghai. She was 9 at that time and I thought I would give her a bit of a training on managing the customs process by herself.
