Visiting Changzhou was a last minute side trip before going back home to Shanghai from Nanjing. But it created some wonderful and unexpected memories. For example, we visited a beautiful Zen Buddhist temple called the Tianning Temple. It had many statues of Lord Buddha and revered monks as well as wall murals and paintings. I cannot remember if there was a lift or I climbed all the 13 stories up but the view at the top of the temple was spectacular. Apparently in 2007, after a renovation, the Tianning Temple became the tallest pagoda in the world at 154m (505 ft). Of course we didn’t know that at that time and were just happy to explore what Changzhou had to offer .
