A chocolate birthday cake for my son in school

Shanghai. Oct 2009

The British International School Shanghai (Puxi) allowed the kids to bring in a cake to celebrate their birthdays in class. So for my son’s fourth birthday, I send a cake to his class. My daughter got permission from her class teacher to join him for the cake-cutting. They had a great time and took a lot of pictures. But after coming to Australia I found out that you can’t bring a birthday cake to school here as some kids have allergies to nuts, gluten, dairy products etc and this can pose a serious food safety issue.
