One of those early attractions I brought my kids out to in Shanghai was the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. It was a massively huge place with many different interesting sections on human body, animal world, robotics, space, environment etc. You can easily spend an entire day there with your family. The thing is that it was not only interactive and engaging for the kids but they also made it interesting for the adults. If you are in Shanghai and you have small kids, I would say, go here.
