Every coin has two sides

Shenyang. Jan 2014

This is an office building in Shenyang called the “Fangyuan Mansion”. It was designed by Chu Yuan Lee, the same architect who designed Taipei 101, the world’s tallest building from 2004 to 2009. The design obviously symbolises good fortune for the tenants of the building. When I first saw it after moving to Shenyang in 2014, I thought it was pretty cool and was amazed that someone could even physically build something like this. Apparently some locals liked it and some locals hated it. CNN hated it too. It voted it as one of the top ten ugliest buildings in the world for 2012. Well, as they say, every coin has two sides.
