Elder Mr Liu and myself were about to walk back to his house with a sack of Chinese cabbages over my shoulders when a neighbour stopped him to have a chat. I am not sure what they talked about. Maybe the neighbour asked him if his yield was great this year as he seems to have hired foreign labour to carry his Chinese cabbages. Or maybe they talked about where they can get better seeds, about the weather forecast, about who bought who’s land or who was getting married next month or who passed away yesterday. A little chat here and a little update there. This face-to-face communication channel is still working in the country-side.
