My hosting family introduced me to the kindergarten principal and a few teachers. To my surprise, they asked if could play Santa for the kids. They were having a Christmas event and had bought a Santa costume but thought it would be better if I played the part. I was worried that these kids might grow-up thinking that Santa is a brown Indian man but I really wanted to help them. So I did everything that they asked of me. I sang the Christmas songs in Chinese. I did the silly dance steps. I posed for all the photos, even with crying children. And end of the day, I took away that playing Santa wasn’t easy and that it was actually real hard work.
