This is the front gate of my compound. No fancy landscaped entrance with water features and greenery. Just a main entrance and a side gate. Residents use an electronic token to open and close the side gate. The side gate is heavily used everyday. The main entrance is always kept closed. Vehicles are prohibited from entering or leaving through the main entrance. This is to deter unauthorised entries, pedlars and theft. If you are moving into or out of an apartment in this compound, you have to use a large trolley that the security guards will provide to move things. Here you can see some delivery men rolling in a sofa on a trolley.
I lived in this compound for 3.5 years and moved in and out twice within those years. The first is when I relocated from Shanghai to Shenyang in 2014. The second time is when my company posted me to the Beijing office in 2016 for a year. I therefore moved out and later moved in back again after returning from Beijing. It was a hassle to move all your things on trolleys in and out but I was fortunate to have friendly neighbours who helped me out.
