Hangzhou – Home of the Alibaba Group

Hangzhou, 2011

Hangzhou is the capital city of the Zhejiang province and is about two hours bus ride away from Shanghai. Back in 2011 it was already a rapidly rising city with a booming economy. By 2020, according to the Hurun Global Rich List, Hangzhou ranked 11th in the world and 6th in China after Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou in the number of resident billionaires. In fact the Alibaba Group was founded here. Its West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is extremely famous and we visited it one weekend via bus. I will write about this in another post.
