The provincial and municipal governments decided to rebuild the Leifeng Pagoda on top of the ruins of the old one. This time they built it with a 1400 tonne steel structure with 200 tonnes of copper parts. The new pagoda opened in 2002 and is a huge tourist attraction in Hangzhou. We interacted with the Leifeng Pagoda in two ways. First way was that we visited the interior and climbed up all the way to the top. The second way was that we took a boat ride in the West Lake and looked at it from afar. It was nice to see the pagoda rising up from the hill after being in ruins for so many years.
