246 countries set-up pavilions in a 5.28 square km site visited by 73 million people over a 6 months period. This was Expo in Shanghai back in 2010. I was the project manager for an important Asia Pacific marketing event happening in my company in Shanghai at that time. And as part of that program, I had to bring 300 APAC VIP customers and staff for a group tour to the Expo and give them a 5-star experience. There were practically hundreds of thousands of people at the expo every day with waiting times from typically 4 to 6 hours just to get in. And once inside, it was an absolute chaos. To get in and to get out in the shortest possible amount of time, to visit the most important and popular pavilions in an organised route in a group tour manner, with a lunch thrown in for good measure was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. I can only say that it was only possible because I had an excellent sub-project team which went above and beyond and we also had an excellent external agency supporting us. The photos show one of the many trial tour sessions we did simulating the actual route and program with our own staff.
