Shanghai is a large international business city of 20 million people. If you want to get out of the city and go somewhere green, Sheshan is a great nearby place. I brought my family there for a day-trip once. My family was staying near the East Xujing Metro Station in Line 2 and we needed to go to the Sheshan train station in Line 9 which was not far (see map below). Sheshan has the highest hill in Shanghai and a nice forest park you can go for a walk. We visited the forest park, a Roman Catholic church called the Sheshan Basilica and also the Sheshan Observatory. An easy day-trip for the family.
