I bought a birthday cake once from a neighbourhood cake shop. It was really huge and colourful. One way to look at it is that it does look colourful and cheerful with lots of yellow hearts and pink roses. But another way to see it is that the design has absolutely no sophistication or abstractness. But I didn’t come to China to comment on cake designs. I came to China because it gave me a career possibility that Singapore couldn’t offer me back in 2008-2009. Of course there are things in China you worry about but cake designs are the least of my worries. Just eat the bloody cake and move on with your life.
