We kept our lives very simple in Shanghai. We bought minimal things for the house and kept everything lean. For example, other than a rice cooker, some pots and pans, these was all the kitchen stuff we had in our house. And it was enough for a family of four to live for five years, together with a domestic helper. Chop sticks, a IKEA kids dinner set, forks and spoons, serving spoons, two plates, a pair of scissors, a can opener, a small sieve and a peeler. That’s it.
