I found it interesting to find fishing canoes at a section of the Shanghai Museum. They were set against a large beach backdrop complete with sand and stones on the setting. The canoes were carved and brightly painted with red motifs and are from the Gaoshan culture. The Gaoshan are the indigenous people of Taiwan. Their ancestors have been living in Taiwan for approximately 6,500 years. According to Wiki, they number about 569,000 today or is about 2.38% of the island’s population.
