There are a lot of retail jobs where you just sit there and wait for customers without having anything to do. This was back in 2013 when smartphones were already around but mobile apps for social networking and gaming were still evolving. What I noticed in China at that time was these people, mostly ladies, would buy this cross-stitch DIY set which came with a pattern and all the necessary threads and needles and would work on it in their free time. After completion, they would sell it to framing shops to make some side income. I brought my Singapore auntie to our wet market and she too purchased a cross-stitch set for herself.
