In my ten years in China, I have never actually been to a restaurant or a friend or a neighbor’s house where they cooked and served turtles, frogs, dogs, donkeys, eels, snakes or bats. These exotic cuisines do exist in China but are considered to be fairly unusual cuisines even by most Chinese. So it’s not like everyone is having a plate of stir-fried frog legs or a bowl of soft-shell turtle soup or braised eel in oyster sauce every other day in China. I know this will disappoint most foreigners who read the news but have never been to China, that the most common food options in China are actually vegetables, chicken, fish, pork and beef.
