A Gothic style Catholic Church right in the middle of Shenyang

Shenyang. Jul 2014

These were still my early days in Shenyang and I wanted to explore and see what the city had. One day I decided to visit an old Catholic church called “The Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral”, also known as “The Nanguan Church”. It was built in 1873, got burnt down in 1900 and was rebuilt in 1912. I thought it was remarkable to find a Gothic style Catholic church in the middle of an industrial city such as Shenyang. But here it was. I came to the church about four times during my four years in Shenyang. Even though I wasn’t a Christian, I loved the church and the peace and quietness when I am here.
