I was in the Shangri-La Hotel to recce a restaurant for an important office dinner I was trying to organise at that time. This is the view from the executive floor and you can see Shenyang’s downtown in the far horizon. Though I have said couple of times that Shenyang is a third-tier city, it is still very much a modern city. It’s roads are clean and has high-rise apartments and shopping complexes everywhere. And foreigners can find everything they want downtown if they can’t find it elsewhere in the city. I initially made weekly trips too to downtown for some foreign goods but reduced it to a few months once after I learned to live like a local.
