One of the most popular businesses in Shenyang’s summer night markets is selling fruits. The best selling fruit during the summer time has to be the water melon. They bring it in by the truck loads and sell it dirt cheap prices. And they sell them in halves for three reasons. Firstly you can see the inside first hand. Secondly water melons are huge and heavy in China and its less heavier to carry home a halve than a whole. Thirdly, as I found out in China, people don’t cut the water melon into slices. That’s too much work and thereafter you have to wash your hands too. They just dig in with their spoons and scoop out the flesh. Easy.
