The world has certainly changed the last 20 years. This is a local bus in a small city called Anshan, couple of hours high-speed train ride away from where I was working and living, Shenyang. I was there for the long weekend. I looked around and there was just one guy in the bus who had a smartphone and was looking at it. Everyone else was looking outside. This commuting behaviour certainly changed drastically by the time I left China in 2018. Every single person from school-going kids to the old folks would be glued to their devices in every bus and every train all around the country. The only ones not looking were sleeping.
