The View from the Oriental Pearl Tower in 2010

Shanghai, 2010

This is the view from the Oriental Pearl Tower back in 2010. You can see that the Shanghai tower (632 m / 2,073 ft / 128 floors) at the right hand corner of the photo, currently the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world, is still under construction. To get a sense of the sizes, you can look at the two graphics from Wiki below. For a naive Singaporean who thought that Singapore had some of the tallest buildings in the world, it was one of the earliest reality checks for me after arriving to China. The other buildings in the background are the Shanghai World Trade Centre or as I call it the “Bottle Opener Building” (492m / 1,614ft / 101 floors) and the Jin Mao Tower (421m / 1,380 ft / 88 floors), ranked second and third tallest buildings in China respectively. I will write about these two buildings at another time.
